An Alias is an alternate URL for a page on your web site. You can create an Alias for the old address of a page that has been moved so users will be redirected if they attempt to access the old address. You can also use an Alias to create a short URL for a page so you can reference it more easily in a marketing campaign, email, or on Twitter.

Creating an Alias

1. Go to a page where you want to add an Alias.
2. Select Aliases from the Properties menu.
3. Click the Add button to add a new Alias.
4. Enter the address of the new alias in the Alias field, making sure to leave the leading slash (“/”) in place.
5. Enter a Comment.
6. Press Save when complete.

In the above example, the page could now be accessed at yoursite.com/Promo in addition to the standard address.

Mike - I'm not sure if this is the correct to past this reply but...

How can I remove an Alias? I'm asking this becuase I have moved some file locations and did not want to create an Alias page for these files, but I had no choice. Either I could create an Alias page, or I had to cancel the move.
Kim, you can quickly delete an alias right from the same screen where you create an alias. Simply choose the alias you want to remove by clicking the Edit button in the table next to that alias. When the alias information comes up (see the image above) simply click the Delete button (the Delete button is disabled when you create a new alias, but not when you edit an existing alias). At that point you are all set.

Kim, I also wanted to mention that you can move a page without creating an Alias. When you move a page using the Drag-and-drop method in the Site Tree, you are prompted with 2 Alert Messages. The first makes sure that you want to move the page. Clicking OK will move the page. The second checks to see if you want to create an Alias. Clicking OK will add the Alias. Clicking Cancel will not add an Alias, but the page will still be moved.
