Is there a section of the Algonquin Systems or QuantumCMS Web sites on which bug reports can be submitted by client users of the QCMS software and on which those same users can check the progress of their own submissions and those of others? What would be the point of creating such a site if one doesn't already exist (you might ask...)?
I was thinking about Adobe and their use of such a site. Aside from the obvious single-intake point for filing bug reports, such a site provides individual clients with a bigger picture of what is happening with other users, and it also helps stimulate discussion among the developer community (since Adobe manufactures application-development software) as to where the software can go next. It's documented that people who are involved in the development of something have a greater vested interest in that thing, and since all QCMS users have the ability to "extend" the QCMS software (i.e., QCMS clients are part of the QCMS development community), having such a site could stimulate discussion among Quantum users in a similar fashion. It's just a thought....
We do not have bug reporting or tracking software like you might see with Adobe. We do have an internal task management and bug tracking tool, but we do not open that up to the public partially because of all the security risks and IP issues associated with displaying the guts of our code (which we often share in our bug and feature tracking reports).
We do value input from our community, which is why we hold user groups (now twice a year) to gather feedback in a face-to-face setting. This goes along with this community site so our users can ask questions, raise issues, make suggestions, or just lurk and see what others have to say. As such, this forum provides an opportunity to post bugs and a place for us to report our progress.
I hope that all our users will consider posting issues / bugs / feature requests here, as a few have done already. As we respond here, it will create a public archive of the progress for all to see and share feedback. What it lacks is a specific tracking ID number, but we can include that from out internal tracking software and users can always search on that or just bookmark the original report.
