If you have asked me about the Redirection page type in QuantumCMS, then you have probably heard me mention the number 301. In the technical parlance of the web, a web page that has moved to another address is supposed to issue a 301 message ("permanent redirection") whenever your browser or the search engine looks for it. This tells your browser that the page has moved and brings you to the new location. This is the way the Redirection page type in QuantumCMS works as well as the Alias feature.
If you have wondered if Google somehow ranks those redirection pages (rather, their destinations) as lower in the search results, the short answer is that it does not. In fact, you can have as many Redirections and Aliases as you want on a site.
However, don't point one Redirection page to another Redirection page. Google will probably not follow it on to the destination. Always make sure your Redirection pages point to real page (or file) on your site or on the web.
If you are interested in the official word from Google, the video below details how permanent redirections (301) are handled in the Google search engine (using only slightly technical terms).
