Internet Explorer 9 and QuantumCMS

With the recent final release of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) we have been working through QuantumCMS to identify issues our users might have in the authoring tool. So far we have identified two issues you might encounter if you use IE9, the first of which will be nothing more than a message in the status bar of your browser telling you there was a script error.

The second issue may be a bit more problematic for our users. The WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor that looks like a word processer interface is not functioing at full strength. The editor we use is called FCKedit, and is used by many content management systems on the market. The problems that have been identified are complex enough that bug reports have been filed with Microsoft.

Without getting into the technical details, I can tell you that we will be looking at workarounds until both Microsoft and FCKEdit can resolve these known bugs. In the meantime, please do not upgrade to Internet Explorer 9. You may also use Firefox or another browser such as Chrome (not officially supported) to continue to author on the site. If you have already upgraded to Internet Explorer 9, here are some workarounds you can do immediately to allow you to continue to author on your site:

1. Switch to Compatibility Mode in Internet Explorer 9. You can do this by clicking the broken page icon in the address bar of your browser:
   
   
   
2. Internet Explorer E9 also has a feature that allows you to render sites in IE8 mode. Here’s how to use the feature:
   1. Open IE9.
   2. Press F12 on your keyboard. You should see another window/frame open. This is the Developer Tools feature.
   3. In the top file menu, you should see something that says, “Browser Mode: IE9.” Click that and select “Internet Explorer 8” from the menu. Any sites that you visit in your current tab will now load as if you were using IE8.
